Leadership Skills for Children and Young Adults

2,095 at-risk girls participated in YWCA youth programs that build self-esteem, and foster independent thinking, self-direction, academic success and leadership skills for girls between ages 11-17

Samantha (pictured, bottom photo, center) participated in YWCA's six-week Summer Internship Teen Empowerment Program to learn communication and relationship building skills. Although only 14, she began her internship working as a receptionist, learning valuable office and technology skills, and progressed to representing the partner agency at community outreach events and spearheaded several efforts on her own.

"I know that my participation in the program will better prepare me for my future jobs, especially having experienced a work environment first-hand."

Samantha was awarded the Governor's Youth Volunteer Service Award by Governor Jack Markell for her work with Habitat for Humanity in Sussex County.

"Her passion and knowledge for the Habitat mission has made Samantha a wonderful advocate for the organization."

– Kevin Gilmore, Executive Director for Sussex County Habitat for Humanity
