YWCA supports individuals in achieving their homeownership goals by providing education and practicum on the complete home-buying process to help ensure they make the best purchase decision for their family. For existing homeowners who have defaulted on their mortgage, YWCA provides full service counseling and intermediary support between the homeowner and lender to find an alternative to foreclosure.

This was the case for Simone, a young mother who needed assistance immediately. "My only options were to stay in a violent relationship and pray that another gun would not be held to my head or go back to an alcoholic father. I called the YWCA because I'd heard that there was a first time home buyers program. I wanted to provide a home for my children to feel safe and only see the positive in life. My YWCA counselor was respectful and treated me like a woman that was serious about her future. From day one, she helped me to repair my credit, and checked in regularly on my progress." Simone became the proud owner of her first home on October 9, 2012.

"Since coming to the YWCA, I do not feel like just another young mother with 2 kids looking for a hand out. I am a grown woman, focused on the future of myself and my children and I feel motivated, determined, hopeful and empowered."
