YWCA Annual Report Home History and Mission Enriching Families Empowering Women Eliminating Racism Gifts Financials

YWCA is the voice for every woman.

In 1895, a small group of compassionate and progressive women began YWCA in Delaware to address the issue of low wages, long hours, inadequate housing, and poor working environments of young women in the community. Since then, YWCA Delaware emerged as a leading advocate for women by providing housing, violence prevention, economic empowerment, racial justice initiatives and youth leadership.

Our goals are to advance equal opportunity for women, women's self-sufficiency and family stability, and social and racial justice. We empower women politically, financially and socially, while fostering the confidence and "can-do" attitude needed to eliminate barriers and overcome life's obstacles. Available to all ages, classes, races, and religions, YWCA Delaware provides an environment where every woman finds the support and inspiration to reach her potential. YWCA Delaware is a member of YWCA USA.

Over the last century, YWCA Delaware has been speaking out and taking action on behalf of women and girls in our communities, benefiting thousands of people each year from many locations across our state. We rely on the compassion and knowledge of our clients, volunteers and diverse Board of Directors to ensure forward-thinking plans that meet our community's changing needs. We have a strong reputation for managing expenses prudently, training employees to keep up with current demands and implementing smart business strategies to support our programs and services dedicated to changing the lives of people in our community.
